The Capital Region Healthy Communities Coalition was formed in 2009 to promote healthy living by empowering regional coordination and advocacy with target areas of Albany, Schenectady, and Rensselaer counties.Primary Goals:

  • Improve information sharing and coordination among all initiatives and community organizations addressing issues related to healthy living.
  • Increase support for prevention focused policies and environmental changes that promote healthy living.
  • Primary areas of focus for the Coalition are related to nutrition, physical activity, parks/trails, the built environment, and tobacco control initiatives.

The Coalition hosts quarterly issue forums to educate a broad cross-section of groups and individuals on issues related to building healthy communities. We encourage educating yourself and your group outside of your traditional issue area to further the overall goals of community health in our Region.

Please join us for our next quarterly meeting:

Each meeting has two focus points based on the Coalition s goals:

  • Foster information sharing and coordination among participants working in our four key areas (healthy foods; healthy schools; community based physical activity; and improving the built environment)
  • Develop a Regional voice advocating for a key public issue to provide a healthy communities perspective. We will hear a presentation and learn what we can each do to take action.
